Tour of Puglia

Spring tour 2017

After last year’s wonderful trip to Belgium, we are delighted to announce that in 2017 we will be returning to Italy and exploring one of the nation’s most beautiful regions: Puglia. Cradled between the Ionian and Adriatic seas, Puglia is one of the most archeologically and historically rich regions of Italy. First colonized by the Mycenaean Greeks in the 8th century BC, Puglia has been home to a mosaic of different peoples, from the Turks and the Romans to the Normans. Modern day Puglia is a treasure of natural, archeological, and architectural beauty. During our trip, we will be welcomed into stunning private homes, some of which are in the traditional Pugliese “masseria” style. These farmhouse-type dwellings are typical of the regional and are architectural wonders that have been carefully preserved by their owners. Travellers will have an opportunity to taste some of Puglia’s world famous cuisine, and we will also be visiting the Abbey of Cerrate, a magnificent FAI property nestled amongst the olive groves. The Abbey of Cerrate is being restored to its former splendor thanks to the generosity of Friends of FAI supporters.
