From May 23–29, members of the Friends of FAI’s Balbianello Circle gathered in Rome for an unforgettable journey that offered a rare perspective on the Eternal City: one experienced not as tourists, but as welcomed guests and friends. These tours are above all the ultimate opportunity to learn more about the indefatigable work of FAI – The National Trust for Italy and see with your own eyes the impact of your support.
Designed around exceptional access and meaningful encounters, this year’s Friends of FAI Spring Tour opened the doors to some of Rome’s most remarkable private palaces, villas, gardens, collections, and artists’ studios, many of which are rarely, if ever, accessible to the public. Thanks to the generosity of our hosts and the longstanding friendships that make these experiences possible, participants discovered a side of Rome that few have the privilege to see.
Among the highlights were exclusive visits to Palazzo Pallavicini, Villa Albani, Palazzo Odescalchi, Palazzo Taverna, and a number of extraordinary private residences and collections. The itinerary also embraced contemporary creativity through visits to inspiring art spaces and artists’ studios, while a memorable excursion to Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli – one of FAI’s treasured properties since 2002 – offered a beautiful reminder of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to preserving Italy’s cultural and natural heritage.
Throughout the week, each visit was enriched by the stories shared by passionate hosts and expert guides, revealing centuries of history, art, and family tradition hidden behind Rome’s magnificent façades. Evenings brought unforgettable moments of conviviality, with elegant receptions and spectacular dinners in historic settings that reflected the warmth and generosity of those who welcomed our group.
More than a remarkable travel experience, the tour celebrated the community that makes Friends of FAI so special. Every journey helps strengthen FAI’s mission to protect, restore, and share Italy’s extraordinary heritage, ensuring that these places continue to inspire future generations.
