The Masino Castle, property of FAI since 1988, contains a small portion of the larger history of humanity and presents to the modern-day visitor an experience of the setting in which an aristocratic family of Piedmont, the Valperga di Masino family, lived, from the fourteenth century until 1987. It was built in the eleventh century by the Valperga family, a solid clan on a par with the principal European dynasties, thanks to their presumed and claimed descent from Arduino, the first King of Italy, who is buried in the Chapel. Aside from the frescoes, the paintings, the sculptures, and original furnishings, the castle also preserves a rich family archive and a library of approximately twenty thousand volumes.  
   
The Library of Tommaso Valperga di Masino, abbot of Caluso, brother of the viceroy of Sardinia, Carlo II Valperga di Masino, has been designed and realized at the end of the 1700. It is an important example of the Italian Neoclassic style in particular represented by the decorations all over the library. The restoration project has been started to solve the serious damages that the humidity caused to the plastering of the Library. Together with the restoration works necessary to bring to the ancient splendour the Library there are also some important works that are necessary to open the room to the public such as the electrical system and the sprinkler system.  
 
     
 
 
   
The Library still contains the original and rare collection of more than 20.000 volumes. The collection of 20.000 volumes has been moved waiting for the restoration of the Library. Also the books need to be restored because the humidity. To replace the books in their original place are also important different works at the bookcases for the safety and the maintenance of the collection.
